D5: 1n4148, D6: 1n4148 and a LED connected in series allow D4 and or D6 lets to illuminate ? I recently put just an LED in D6 with out a diode and it doesn’t light. Greatly appreciate any suggestions, thank you. The Boss SD-1 is a very good sounding overdrive, economically priced and is one of the most famous tubescreamer type circuits available. Many boutique pedal builders have used this type of circuitry to 'design' their own pedals complete with new fancy paint job and the assumption that their version is better. While it does perform exceptionally well on it's own, we can do different changes to make it better, even making it into something that would rival some of the best boutique overdrive pedals available.

This pedal is for users who are very capable at dialling in. Equally this pedal makes for a good starter pedal if you just want to experience overdrive and what that does to your sound. But for everyone else, I think the natural mid boost gives a little too much mud to be a popular pedal board decision over more modern pedals. Like many of you, I can get some good stuff out of this pedal, but unlike some other pedals - I have to put in elbow grease to get there. AC adaptor (sold separately) Current Draw 15 mA Expected battery life under continuous use (These figures will vary depending on the actual conditions of use.) Carbon: Approx. 25 hours Unique Asymmetrical Clipping Circuit— Produces tube-like overdrive characteristics, transforming any clean-channel amp into a crunchy rhythm machine, or tightening up the tone of a distorted high-gain monster! This is a (pretty solid) clone of the Version 1 or Triangle Big Muff pedal. You’ve got the same exact enclosure shape, and it copies the original in almost every other aspect. To completely throw subtlety out the window, there’s another version of this clone that actually says “Big Muff” right on the pedal. You gotta give them props for sheer audacity on that. I mean, if I was rifling through a box of clearance pedals at Guitar Center, and I didn’t look at this one very carefully, I might buy it and not realize my mistake until I got home.

D4, D5, and D6 can be switched out with all different types of diodes and combinations of them. For example, many folks like this change: Overdrives are often talked about, and I must admit for a long time I was somewhat ignorant. Only in the last year or so I learned how they can be used to boost an amp, rather than for their own overdrive/distortion. Straight to right-angle 1/4-inch connectors, 10 ft./3 m length. Also available in 15 ft./4.5 m (BIC-15A) length. Next is a shameless clone from the Ukraine. I’m talking about the Sound JS Stereo Chorus CE-5, which is supposed to be a clone of the BOSS CE-5, but is actually closer to the BOSS CE-2. I’ve applauded a few different clones on this list as nearly perfect, but I’ll be the first to admit that the Sound JS Stereo Chorus CE-5 is not one of them. No, that’s not a typo. This second pedal shares the exact same name as the PSK clone of the BOSS SD-1, and actually pulls off the clone deal a little better. The enclosure is the same color as the original BOSS unit -- gold -- but it was made in Korea, not Japan. Honestly, I’d say this was a solid 9.5 on the shameless clone-o-meter, if it weren’t for one thing: I don't know what company made this. There's no name on the pedal. No owner’s manual. Nothing. So, maybe they were slightly ashamed that they cloned a BOSS pedal? I really don’t know.In this first video, I am comparing my Analogman modded TS9 Tube Screamer with the SD-1 using a Fender Stratocaster. I use various amount of gain and show at the end how it can be used to boost an amp, and a distortion pedal (a Proco RAT 2): I haven’t played with it much yet and I’m already super disappointed. I bought it because I heard Eddie VH and Zakk W had it on their boards but to me, the pedal sounds more like 60’s garage band. And absolutely NOTHING like a sound from either one of them.

I referenced the official boss schematic found at http://www.hobby-hour.com/electronics/s ... rdrive.php, R.G.Keen's technology of the tube screamer article, a copy of Torchy's TS-808 veroboard layout and the tonepad tubescreamer schematic mentioned previously for this. I also dug through Brett Miller and Muhammad Iqbal's document on the Boss DS-1 Distortion to see what they recommended as alternative transistors since the 2SC732 transistors are common to both the SD-1 and DS-1 and are difficult for me to find. They also have pinouts that don't fit easily onto the Torchy layout I was using as a base. Since the beginning, the engineers at BOSS have been committed to achieving the finest guitar tones Bernie had completely forgotten he had this. He said, ‘Oh, I looked in one of my old storage spaces today and I found another four guitars’”: Up close and personal with some of late guitar hero Bernie Marsden’s rarest vintage instruments These are so cheap, and the impact they have, I believe now everyone should have one! An overdrive can save an amp that sounds too dull or doesn't have enough bite. Set drive to 0 and level to max, and it pushes your amp into a nice and tight, cutting saturated tone.

The whole thing is written in Russian, naturally, and it has some date codes that I don’t totally understand. The DOD Grunge came out in the ’90s, but I have a feeling that this clone was released closer to the 2000s.
