I have gone on about this as a concept before but it bears repeating. Some brands have a speaker configuration that they just ‘do better’ than any other. For Acoustic Energy, however good its floorstanders are (and some are very good), my greatest enthusiasm is reserved for its two way standmounts. For Neat, it is when the company gets to use isobaric driver arrangements that the magic happens, while ATC becomes something truly special once its dome midrange is deployed. In the manner that you or I will be better at one specific task or activity over others, so it is here. We all know people who complain that in audio the link between the cost of manufacture and retail price is often tenuous at best. The resistors used in Product A can be had for less than five pence a pop and the capacitors a mere 30 pence each. In plain speak, vendors are being accused of profiteering. They come with a 2yr warranty - so did my Q3020i. Registering them online upped that to 5yrs. Triangle seem to offer this if you register online as well... Borea BR09 comes with magnetic grilles. The purpose of the grille is to protect the delicate driver elements from external impacts while still allowing the sound to pass as clearly as possible. Since the included grille of the Borea BR09 is magnetic type, it is very easy to put it on and off.

The BR09 provides a physical make up similar to that of the most high-end systems. Its three 16cm bass drivers operate in a large bass-reflex enclosure, thus enabling the speaker to go down to 35Hz. Borea BR09 features Binding post type posts and Borea BR08 has a Binding post type posts. None of these speakers feature bi-amping/bi-wiring. I love them and 100% recommend, as ever Richer Sounds Exeter came up trumps and I've shopped with RS for 30 years now, there really is no other place to buy them. Let’s be clear here, at this price I wasn’t expecting the BR09’s to be anything fancy fit and finish wise but, in truth, there is nothing here to complain about at all, though it is clear they are built to a price point. It’s a three-way design with three 16cm bass drivers in a front-ported bass reflex enclosure. There’s a similarly sized mid-range driver and a partially horn-loaded “Efficient Flow System” 25mm silk dome tweeter that has a phase plug designed to reduce directivity. The white midrange driver is made of natural cellulose paper, has no surface treatment, and has a “small pleat peripheral short-travel suspension” and is designed to be very rigid. The bass drivers are fiberglass.Prices valid in stores (all including VAT) until close of business on 29th November 2023. (Some of these web prices are cheaper than in-store, so please mention that you've seen these offers online.) The Triangle Borea BR09 creates an expansive and three-dimensional soundstage, with excellent width, depth, and height. The precise imaging allows for accurate placement of instruments and vocals within the soundstage, providing а true-to-life and immersive listening experience. The speakers disappear in the room, giving you the impression of being at a live performance. Those familiar with Triangle and looking to spend around two grand for a pair of speakers may already be getting lofty ideas regarding performance. Indeed, those from the cult of 'source first' may well intend to push these French towers along with some pretty tasty front ends. Meanwhile, others will be matching the BR08 with similarly-priced products. That's the delicate balancing job this faces – it has to be articulate enough to let decent quality equipment shine, yet forgiving enough to still sound good with budget kit. UP CLOSE

This hands over at a relatively high 3.5kHz crossover to what appears to be a visually identical driver to the one used in the BR03. This version in the BR08 is better adapted for use as a midrange driver thanks to a shorter suspension travel that reduces low frequency extension but speeds up the response. The driver itself is made from untreated cellulose; something of a Triangle speciality. This is imported wholesale from the Esprit range that sits above the Borea speakers and is 16 centimetres across - relatively large for a midrange unit. It features an integrated phase plug and relatively small surround. It’s all good sport of course, but as an argument it fails to account for the overheads of employing design and production staff, providing a building for them to work in and equipment to work with, marketing and advertising, a dealer margin of perhaps 40%, plus service and support. For the money, they’re savvy musical performers with a great sense of scale and an even greater appetite for presenting music in a transparent and mature manner. But are they speakers capable of worrying the current class-leaders? Most definitely. Acoustic Panels and Treatments: Your room is as important as your stereo equipment so acoustic treatments goes a long way in improving the overall performance. As I said, I first went for Borea BR09, in a 60 sqm open living, they are definitely an upgrade from 3050i but need some time to break in. Borea is a killer range of speakers, I would not hesitate. Details are there, very good for the price (1100 euro a pair), bass at low volumes - I think depends much on the amplification, should have the 'loudness' control, in general Borea is very dependent on good source, good records. Voice on Borea is also quite direct, in front, very clear. Bass with good records and high volume is lime thunder, try JM Jarre, Waiting for Cousteau, Calypso pt 2...
